Storm Door Policy

I. Policy

Tennyson Townehome owners are required to obtain approval from the Tennyson Homeowners Association Board or its delegated agent for any changes or replacements of Storm Doors. Tennyson Patio Home owners are requested to submit an Architectural Improvement Application in order to receive guidance in the selection of a Storm Door manufacturer and style which conforms to the community's standards as set forth in this document.

II. Acceptance Requirements

  1. The Storm Door must be a Full-View door with a frame less than five (5") inches wide around all four sides of the door. Storm Doors may be either of the design which has a full-sized interchangeable glass and screen panel, or of the design which has a divided sliding glass panel with a built-in half-sized roll-down screen. Doors with a wide bottom kick plate will not be approved.

  2. The Storm Door Color must be "Sandstone" or an equivalent match with "Tennyson Gray".

III. Delegation of Approval to the Community Manager

For any application for the installation of a Storm Door which conforms to the below Acceptance Requirements, the Board delegates application approval to the Community Manager. The Community Manager shall maintain a record of all approved Storm Door installations, and once a year report a summary of these to the Board.

Applications containing exceptions to the following Requirements must be presented to the Architecture Committee using the Process for Submitting Applications for Architectural Changes, Replacements, and Improvements. (See Policy Page 2.)

IV. Homeowner Responsibility

  1. The Homeowner shall accept full responsibility for all costs of materials, structural or physical alterations, installation, liability, and for any on-going maintenance and repair.

  2. At such time that the Storm Door is removed, the Homeowner bears the responsibility for restoring former attachment points to their original condition and appearance.

V. Background and Intent

The Tennyson Homeowners Association currently permits individual homeowners, at their own expense, to purchase, install, and maintain Storm Doors at their unit entryways.

When the Tennyson subdivision was originally built, Homeowners had fewer choices in type and style of entry storm doors than at the present time. The Board originally approved a white or brown aluminum door with a wide bottom kick panel. This door is still in use by several Homeowners throughout the community. Since this door was approved, however, full-view storm doors have become available and are now the only type approved for new and replacement installations. The original widebottom door may continue to be used where currently installed, but will not be approved for replacement or new installations.

This document defines the Architecture Committee's position regarding the acceptance of the installation of Storm Doors.
