Problems with Dogs and Cats

Our community experiences a negative impact in appearance and additional costs to all of us for pollution control and mowing due to excrement (feces) from our pets. That is why it is so important that those attending the pets in Tennyson immediately remove any excrement. This means anywhere in Tennyson (even away from homes and paths) and in any amount (even a little bit). Animal excrement should be disposed of in the trash or, better still, flushed in a toilet where it is treated in a process designed for it. Disposal of excrement and/or the collection bag into our storm drainage system is prohibited since it creates blockage and expense problems for all of us. Excrement washing into our detention areas or our lake may cause odors, unsightly conditions and pollution for our areas as well as Sharon Woods Lake.

The restrictions on dogs and cats in our community are governed by our Declaration and Sharonville law. These animals must be kept within the confines of the owner’s living unit or lot except when being held on a hand leash by person attending animal. (Declaration Article VIII Section 1(b) and the Sharonville leash law)

In Sharonville, every owner or person in charge of every animal shall be responsible for the immediate removal of any excretion deposited by such animal on public or private property not owned or possessed by such individual.  This includes all common and limited common areas.  Whoever violates this is guilty of a misdemeanor.

Patio homeowners are permitted to install invisible fences in the rear of their units only.

Here is what your Board of Trustees advises regarding dogs and cats in our community:

  • If you are aware of animals being maintained, kept, boarded, and/or raised in our community for commercial purposes, contact your Board of Trustees (see FAQs Page) as this is a violation of our Declaration.

  • For other problems, your first step might be to discuss your complaint with the person in charge of the animal.

  • If that person does not respond and you observe the animal not on a leash or the person in charge of the animal not immediately removing any excrement deposited by such animal, contact the Sharonville Police Department.
